Public gets more time on SR 347 grading project

The public comment period for the proposed grade separation of State Route 347 and the Union Pacific railroad crossing has been extended through Aug. 30.

Comments about the project can be submitted by visiting the project website at azdot.gov/347GS.

A public scoping meeting, introducing three preliminary concepts regarding how to address the troublesome intersection, was held earlier this month.

The general plan at this point is for the highway to go above the tracks and the road cannot be built beneath them.

The project is expected to cost between $50 million to $100 million and take at least five years to complete. Funding for the construction phase of the project has not yet been determined, but the funding for the environmental analysis and design concept report currently being completed has been split evenly between the city and the Arizona Department of Transportation.
