Aid sought for hurricane relief

While he is preparing continuing his march against the Maricopa Shell gas station, Russell Dickenson is preparing to head to Galveston, Texas, for a hurricane relief effort.

Dickenson has been standing in front of the station wearing a sign proclaiming that drug paraphernalia is being sold there, but has yet to get anyone to join in the protest (see related story).

“I will be out there Monday all day, so if someone wants to join me, bring a sign and take a stand,” he said.

A former drug addict, Dickinson said he believes that if there isn’t a place to buy drug paraphernalia in town, then people will be discouraged from abusing drugs.

Dickenson will be leaving Feb. 8 for Galveston. The local do-gooder will be heading to the community, which was hit hard by Hurricane Ike in September, to deliver much-needed supplies and relief. Former city councilman Will Dunn has donated a U-Haul trailer to Dickenson in which to transport supplies.

Dickenson would like all those in the community who are able to pitch in supplies for him to transport to the victims. He is seeking items such as nonperishable food, old appliances, laundry soap, cleaning supplies, shovels, rakes and first-aid supplies.

Supplies for the hurricane relief can be dropped off at the U-Haul store in the Stage Stop Marketplace, 44301 W. Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway.
