At-risk and homeless students at Maricopa Wells Middle School received backpacks, school supplies and physical education uniforms with funds raised from a recent community event. MOMS Club of Maricopa-Cruz, Desert Sun Performing Arts and Desert Star Gymnastics raised $1,050.00 at its Kids’ Oktoberfest Oct. 27 (see related story).

The benefactors, business owners Ceylan Gentilella of Desert Sun Performing Arts and Desert Star Gymnastics’ Amy Bratlie, and MOMS Club representative Kayci Amos, presented Maricopa Wells Middle School Principal Stephanie Sharp with a check and supplies Wednesday at the school.

The group filled more than 20 backpacks with school supplies and had about $350.00 left, which they gave to the school to purchase PE uniforms for the kids.

“It was very gratifying seeing the end result of all our hard work,” Gentilella said.
