Calling all young baseball players ages 7-18; the Maricopa Babe Ruth League has returned and registration has started.

At $150 per individual, the league will be open for both baseball and softball. Registration will be ongoing through May 7, and fees will include the costs for uniforms, insurance and entry into various tournaments throughout the state.

“Both boys and girls are welcome to play baseball, and the softball league will be open exclusively for girls,” said Maricopa Babe Ruth League President Jeff Anthony.

The league has not been active for the last few years, but Anthony is hoping there will be a solid turnout, and that there is at least one team per age division representing the city. The teams will be travelling out of Maricopa, as well hosting home games at either Pacana Park or Maricopa High School. Teams that are already organized are also allowed to register up to May 14.

“We know some people want to have their kids play together, or there is a desire for continuity from school play,” said Anthony. “So having the chance to create your own team is something we hope encourages people.”

There will be an individual evaluation on May 14 in the event there are multiple teams within the same age group. There will be three weekly games during the regular season, which runs throughout June and July. Depending on a team’s success, there is also a potential post season that goes through August.
