Maricopans celebrated the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. Tuesday night at an event hosted by the City of Maricopa at City Hall.

Mayor Nancy Smith read a Jan. 15 proclamation from Councilman Henry Wade Jr., commemorating Martin Luther King Day in Maricopa.

The proclamation in honor or MLK Day said King “dedicated his life to the pursuit of human justice and love for his fellow man” and was “considered a vanguard in the search of the advancement of social justice and equal opportunity for all.”

Wade thanked Smith for the city’s support on MLK Day.

“That is one thing that is given, but not all the time received,” Wade told Smith.

Wade urged participation in such community events.

The celebration moved to the City Hall lobby where peach and apple cobbler was served with ice cream, a gospel choir from Mount Moriah Community AME Church in Maricopa performed the Black National Anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” and King’s “I Have a Dream” speech was recited.

  1. What in the heck is the “Black National Anthem”? Ohhhh that’s right an anthem that the Demoncrats devised to keep America divided.

So Henry, at this point in this country’s history are you still a Democrat and still support the Democrat Marxist agenda? Asking for a friend…
