Blood donors can win 2010 Volkswagen

United Blood Services will be at Maricopa High School in the multi-purpose room from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 21.

Teens can and do make a huge impact on the lives of Arizona hospital patients. Sixteen year olds are now eligible to give blood, with additional height and weight restrictions.

“High school donors have become the top contributors to Arizona’s blood supply,” said Audrey Jennings, executive director for United Blood Services. “High school blood drives provide one out of every 10 donations given in Arizona, far surpassing any other age group of donors.”

As an additional incentive, donors who give blood through September 30 are entered in the Southern AZ Blood Donor “‘Drive Away a Hero with a New Beetle” campaign.

The 2010 vehicle is being provided by Peoria Volkswagen with a grand prize drawing scheduled for October. Individuals can double their chances to win by registering a second entry at www.PeoriaVW.com.

To make an appointment to donate, call 1-877-448-GIVE (4483) or visit www.UnitedBloodServicesAZ.org (click on “Donate Blood” and enter your ZIP Code).

“Everyday, 700 donors are needed to meet the blood needs of Arizona hospital patients. You can’t wait for an emergency before you donate – it’s the blood on the shelves that saves lives. The donation you give today could go to save a friend, relative or loved one,” Jennings said.
