BREAKING: Sonoran Desert Parkway to open next week

After more than a decade of work and a recent dramatic saga that sought to delay, the Sonoran Desert Parkway is slated to open next week.  

City Manager Rick Horst announced during tonight’s city council meeting the purpose-made freeway linking John Wayne Parkway and I-10 will open for traffic Wednesday, Oct. 11.  

“That’s barring any unforeseen instances that may occur, but that’s the plan at this point in time,” he said. “That should help a lot of our traffic flows throughout the community.” 

Though details are scant, a formal ribbon cutting is anticipated for early November.
