Danielle Casey, CEcD, EDFP, economic development director for the city of Maricopa, was recently voted by the Arizona Association of Economic Development (AAED) membership at its spring conference to its board of directors as a non-metro community representative for a two-year term.

In addition to her board appointment, Casey has served as co-chair of the Business Retention and Expansion Committee. In 2009 the committee completed the first-ever statewide analysis report of business retention interview data and provided recommendations for local, regional and statewide ways in which retention and expansion efforts can be advanced. The committee recently gave a presentation overview of the report to the Governor’s Council on Small Business.

During the conference, Danielle was also awarded the Economic Developer of the Year in the Small Community category (50,000 residents or less). This award was presented to the AAED member who has made a significant contribution to Arizona’s economic development efforts in calendar year 2009. The contribution may be one or more accomplishments that have positively impacted the nominee’s community, region or state.

AAED is a working organization that utilizes volunteers from its membership to form committees and achieve objectives. It is through this active involvement that the volunteer member recognizes the real benefit of association in this important organization.
