A child was injured in a rollover crash Saturday afternoon, according to the Maricopa Police Department.

The crash occurred when the driver of a CanAm ATV travelling south on North John Wayne Parkway tried to turn east onto Sonoran Desert Parkway, according to city spokesperson Monica Williams. The driver failed to yield to northbound traffic.

The ATV was struck and rolled over, Williams said. A child in the vehicle sustained minor injuries.

The timing and location of the crash line up with the annual Maricopa Side-by-side Light Parade, an ATV caravan at the Ak-Chin Entertainment Circle.

The intersection is currently under construction. Crews today are installing traffic signal poles and signal gear, doing electrical work and paving the curbs and gutters.

That work will continue through Friday.

The city will turn on the four-way stoplight between Dec. 18 and Dec. 20. Work at that intersection will finish with striping Dec. 21 and 22.
