Church starts off Peace Officers Week with memorial service

Moms weren’t the only ones honored on Sunday.

The Calvary Chapel of Maricopa honored past and present peaces officers.

“Moms and law enforcement are on the front lines and have large impacts on the youth,” said Chris Ward pastor for the church and the Pinal County Sheriffs Department.

The church decided to include the peace officers memorial on Mother’s Day because it was the first day of National Peace Officer Appreciation Week, a national event.

“Next week’s service is very packed, so we had to combine it with this service,” Ward said.

In recognition of the national week, the church invited past and former peace offices to come in full uniform.

“I have a uniform through my partnership with the Sheriffs department and will be wearing that,” Ward said on Friday.

Also to honor moms and peace officers, the church handed out gifts, including Bibles.

The sermon focused on the power of prayer and was open to all.
