Community leaders to offer expertise at Parent University

Parents and their students can learn how to work together to create family learning experiences, become involved in their community, recognize signs of gang activity and more in a Parent University Feb. 2 at Maricopa Wells Middle School.

The workshops will be from 9 a.m. to noon at the school, 45725 West Honeycutt Ave. Registration will begin at 8:45 am. A Continental breakfast will follow, leading up to the workshop sessions. The Academic League will perform at 11 a.m.

Maricopa Unified School District staff and other community leaders including a Maricopa Police officer will be on site to present workshops in their areas of expertise.

Cindy Schaider, for example, will discuss current drugs being abused and how to keep children safe from them. Schaider is the director of the Casa Grande Alliance drug-prevention coalition.

Additional topics include goal setting and effective use of school agendas to aid students in managing their study time, when and how to start thinking about college, and a tutorial on how to check a students’ grades online.
