Maricopa might be getting a new banking instituion.

Pinal County Federal Credit Union has targeted the first or second quarter of 2010 for a Maricopa branch.

“We need the pieces of the puzzle to fall into place before we can publicize an exact opening date, but we would very much like to have a physical presence in Maricopa,” said Chief Executive Officer Vince McKee.

The first of those pieces fell in place Tuesday night when Maricopa’s board of adjustment approved a parking variance that will allow the credit union to remove several parking spaces from the Cobblestone Fiesta retail complex in order to construct a drive-through teller.

If constructed, the credit union would be located in the now-vacant space on the eastern end of the shopping complex.

The credit union, which currently serves 16,000 customers and provides 60 jobs across Pinal County, would bring an estimated five new jobs to Maricopa with the opening of a 1,300 square-foot branch, McKee said.

“As the business in Maricopa grows, the number of jobs will also grow,” McKee said.

To join the credit union, members are required to either live, work or worship within the county limits.
