Dance troupe wins Valley competition awards

The Maricopa-based Desert Sun Performing Arts (DSPA) dance studio won individual and team awards in two recent Valley dance competitions.

All of the schools’ teams earned gold medals at the Nexstar competition May 19 at North Canyon High School. Dancers Megan Sing and Lauren Lippold earned the “Sophisticated Ladies” judges choice award for their duet performance, and Lippold won the “Colgate Smile” judges choice award for her solo performance.

Teams also received second and third place overall awards for recreational dancers and four of the five DSPA performances received first place in their categories.

“This was one of the most exciting experiences in my life,” said Sing. “I’m so glad I’m on the competition team. Being able to bring back awards was the best!”

At the Hollywood Vibe competition April 20-21 at Phoenix Convention Center, DSPA teams earned a gold medal and four high silver medals.
