Deadline approaches for recycled glass art contest

The Recycling Association of Maricopa encourages all Pinal County residents to show their artistic talent and environmental stewardship by participating in its first-ever Glass Art Recycling Contest, sponsored by Environmental Concerns Organization, Inc.

Residents are encouraged to take the glass from their waste basket and recreate it into an art object. The art objects submitted will be judged in both student and adult categories and winners will be given awards.

The purpose of the Glass Art Recycling Contest is to encourage Pinal County residents to recycle their glass instead of throwing it away. The Recycling Association of Maricopa is the only location in Pinal County to accept glass for recycling. The RAM facility accepts all glass bottles and jars.

Pinal County students – Grades K-12 at private, public schools, or home schooled – can enter the art contest. Adults of all ages can also participate.

Artwork must be submitted to your local Recycling Association of Maricopa facility by 2 pm Saturday.

Judges will choose one winner from each of five categories – Grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12 and Adult. Category winners will receive a “Certificate of Accomplishment” and Gift Cards from local participating businesses. A “Best of Show” will be awarded to one winner, who may come from any of the five categories.

Winners will be announced April 18 and have their artwork, name and, for the students, the name of their teacher and school displayed at a prominent local business for Earth Day the following week.
