A State Route 347 pavement sealing project is on the horizon, but it won’t begin on Sunday night as scheduled.

The Arizona Department of Transportation said Thursday afternoon the eight-week project has been delayed again, according to Doug Nick, assistant communications director for public information for the agency. It was the second delay for the roadwork.

The start date has been moved, for now, to Nov. 15, and would continue through December, he said.

The first delay was requested by the contractor on the project, Cholla Pavement of Apache Junction, Nick said.

The work will be done between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. from Sunday to Thursday on 15-plus miles of the highway between Hathaway Avenue in Maricopa and I-10, according to ADOT.

The roadwork will include two phases: crack sealing with an oil-like substance, which will be more than half the project, Nick said, and the reapplication of pavement markings, where necessary.

Lane restrictions – both northbound and southbound – will be in place throughout the project. Traffic will be restricted to one lane. Work will be limited three-mile segments in one direction of travel during each overnight restriction.

ADOT advises drivers to slow down and use caution around construction personnel and equipment while work is underway. Work schedules are subject to change based on weather and other unforeseen factors.
