May 15, 83 students from Desert Wind Middle School participated in a year-end trip to Six Flags Magic Mountain.

The 8th Grade Club voted in October on where to go for this year's trip and they decided on Six Flags. To qualify for the trip students had to meet academic and behavioral expectations throughout the year. The cost for each student was $136. Students had multiple opportunities throughout the year to raise funds for the trip by selling candy bars. In addition the 8th Grade Club also participated in fundraising activities in an effort to help offset the total cost per student.

The students left on May 15 at 5 a.m. and arrived home on May 16 at 8:30 a.m. The students had a great time and represented themselves, their families, Desert Wind Middle School, and the Maricopa community well.

"We are proud of them and they deserved an exciting trip,” teacher Derek Cooley stated. “We look forward to next year's 8th grade trip."

The staff members in attendance were Derek Cooley, Evan Nechamkin, Maria King, and Karin Spilman. Parent chaperones were Patti Coutre and Oscar Brown.
