Carl’s Jr. is getting closer to making its Maricopa comeback.

In late-October, crews started moving dirt on a vacant lot between Maricopa Animal Hospital and Rili B’s Taco Shop, at 20015 N. John Wayne Pkwy.

Less than two months later the lot looks a lot less vacant with crews erecting framework and walls.

Earlier this year, spokesperson for SimonCRE, the Scottsdale-based commercial real estate developer, gave InMaricopa an estimated opening of between April and June.

“We are starting construction later this year, and it looks like the current estimation for opening would be Q2 of 2024,” Content Marketing Manager Nick Robello said in an email.

Crews are on track to bring the charbroiled burger joint back to town, with Robello saying today that the second quarter of 2024 was still the plan.

Carl’s Jr. previously operated a restaurant in Maricopa at the site where Wendy’s now grills burgers on North John Wayne Parkway. That location shuttered in December 2018.

The fast-food chain’s return was first announced in late 2021. It rejoins the lineup of national fast-food chains on John Wayne Parkway, which includes Taco Bell, Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Burger King and Sonic.
