Diedrich appointed to NLC committee

City of Maricopa Council member Carl Diedrich has recently been appointed to serve a one-year term on the National League of Cities (NLC) First Tier Suburbs Council Steering Committee. This committee helps direct the First Tier Council in determining its objectives.

The First Tier Suburbs (FTS) Council has identified a variety of major issues of importance facing first tier suburbs. Issues include housing, transportation and infrastructure, changing demographics, regional cooperation and partnerships, economic and community revitalization, and education; all of these have been identified as high priorities for the City of Maricopa.

“Cities like Maricopa face unique situations when they are closely associated with a large metropolitan area but detached enough to create an economy independent of the large city” stated Diedrich. “By sitting on this committee, Maricopa has an opportunity to have a voice in determining the strategies and tools that the National League of Cities will provide to Maricopa and other like communities.”

The NLC meets annually in Washington, D.C. for its Congressional City Conference. Diedrich will be attending the conference in March, where he will meet with the steering committee for the first time.
