Maricopa Unified School District Spelling Bee Coordinator Kathi Fitzgerald wants to get some recognition for the district’s star speller and all those involved in the spelling bee.
Fitzgerald is collaborating to have all those who made this year’s spelling bee a possibility, including participants and parents, present at the Jan. 28 school board meeting.
“We need to recognize the achievements of these individuals,” she said.
The winners of this year’s spelling bee, who now move on to county competition, are fifth grader Johnny Phan, fourth grader Tyler Haddad and sixth grader Joe Pearlstein.
Also making the trip will be the alternates, fifth grader Daryn Viser, fourth grader Taylor Weeks and fifth grader Ezekial Lanpheare.
The Pinal County Bee will be on Friday, Feb. 20, at 9:30 a.m. at the Casa Grande Union High School.
