Valentine’s Day started early in Tortosa

The Tortosa Homeowners Association welcomed local residents at the neighborhood entrance early Thursday during its Valentine’s Day Drive-Thru Breakfast.

About 300 commuters received individual gift bags complete with bottled juice, granola bar, festive candies and chocolates, Valentine novelties and a card.

“What a great way to start the morning for myself and for my neighbors,” said volunteer Sarah Tijerina, who, along with husband Joe, clad in nothing but shorts and T-shirt, assisted the HOA in distributing the breakfasts in the frigid early hours.

The meals were laid out at 6:30 a.m. and gone in less than an hour later.

Tortosa Lifestyle Director Ellen Buddington said, “We had 150 breakfasts last year and doubled it this year, but I’m thinking we may have to double it once more for Valentine’s Day 2014. You know, really spread the holiday love and cheer throughout the community.”
