Of the 147 respondents to InMaricopa.com’s weekly poll question, 63 readers – 43 percent – said they prefer having Maricopa candidates in state and county races.

The next largest chunk of respondents – 45, or 31 percent – said they only prefer candidates from Maricopa sometimes, and 27 percent polled, or 39 respondents, said they do not prefer Maricopa candidates.

Those who do prefer local candidates won’t be disappointed this election cycle as the general election ballot will have five Maricopans vying for office.

On the state level, state Sen. Steve Smith, R-Maricopa, is running for House District 11.

The race for the newly created District 4 Pinal County Supervisor seat is between two locals: Democrat Henry Wade and former mayor Anthony Smith, a Republican.
