The local International Association of Firefighters will hold its second annual ice cream social on Thursday to benefit the firefighters relief fund.

The Firefighter Relief Fund is designed to help injured firefighters with their bills or other financial hardships they may endure.

“The fund is set up to help firefighters across the country, but we try to make sure firefighters in Maricopa who need assistance get it first,” said Jared Hobson, a Maricopa firefighter.

Firefighters will serve up ice cream, smoothies and other Water and Ice items to customers who come to show their support.

“The owner of the store has agreed to donate all profits while we are there to the fund,” Hobson said.

Last year, the event raised $400.

In addition to the cool treats, firetrucks will pass through the parking lot throughout the six-hour fundraiser to entertain children and adults alike.
