Farm Day to celebrate Maricopa with family-oriented activities

64

Maricopans can celebrate their rich agricultural heritage, as well as the area’s future as a center for innovative environmental and agricultural methods and research, at Farm Day on Nov. 1.

The event, which will be held at the University of Arizona’s Maricopa Agricultural Center, will feature information and family-oriented activities.

Scheduled activities include tractor rides, animal displays, a cricket spitting contest, CSI Maricopa, a Master Gardeners’ question and answer session, Be-a-Bug face painting, a GPS treasure hunt, information and displays on water conservation and home irrigation plus brewing and barley and more.

Maricopa is becoming ‘clean and green,’ and the city of Maricopa is partnering with local companies using innovative methods and research related to environmental issues and agriculture to present Farm Day.

Those companies include Pinal Energy, the state’s first ethanol plant, Yulex, which turns desert crops into hypo-allergenic latex, Maricopa’s Agricultural Center, the USDA Arid Land Research Center and Global Water.

Farm Day events are designed to be informative and interesting. The activities are free and geared toward a day of family fun.
