Few turn out to District forum regarding proposed school site

A dozen Maricopa citizens and educators showed up to the open forum Maricopa Unified School District hosted Wednesday night seeking comment about a proposed middle school site near high-voltage power lines.

Most of those who attended were members of the school districts administration, MUSD Public Relations Director Tom Beckett noted. Despite the small crowd, school and city officials still presented information regarding the proposed middle school site within Rancho El Dorado just south of the Global Water Facility.

Because the crowd was not was the district hoped for, Beckett said, more forums and means of communication are in the works. One of the plans is to hold meetings or forums at the elementary schools which will feed into the middle school.

The district will continue to seek the public’s thoughts and opinions on the site before making decisions to move forward with the plans, Beckett said.
