Football booster club seeking volunteers

The Maricopa High School Football Booster Club is looking for a little more community involvement.

The club, formed nearly four years ago, is a non-profit group whose goal is to provide support and raise money for the football team.

“We provide meals for away games, decals for helmets, shirts for the coaches and even provide a $500 scholarship to a player,” said Lorie Duffy, president.

Last year the organization donated $10,000 worth of materials to the high school football program.

However, this year there is a completely new board, and the organization needs volunteers. “Our board is made up of five members, and we have an additional four members in our organization,” Duffy said.

Duffy added that this lack of participation makes it difficult for the new board to raise money for the football program.

This year to raise money for the football team the club is selling varsity gold cards as well as offering businesses the opportunity to fly banners at home games. Varsity gold cards entitle the holder to a variety of discounts at local restaurants for only $20.

“We have not had a big response to these things yet, but we hope that will change,” Duffy said.

If anyone would like to get involved with the organization, make a donation or buy a varsity gold card, they can visit www.copagridiron.com.
