Garage sale to help Haiti medical mission

A mother-daughter duo is gearing up for their next mission to Haiti this January with a garage sale Nov. 3.

In Haiti the two administer medical supplies and support for 10 days.

“You go to Haiti and you’re never the same again,” said Becky Bell, a nurse and Maricopa resident.

The Haitian people have stolen their hearts, Bell said, and the two can’t wait to return. This will be their second trip.

The Bell women will travel with a team of 11 to a small Haitian village called Pillatre where roads are nonexistent and medication is always needed.

Worms and gastrointestinal symptoms are the most common ailments in the small village. The Pillatre water supply is ridden with bacteria and infection, Bell said.

Maricopa residents Dick and Lucy Kelly are showing their support by hosting a garage sale 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 3 at 43576 W. Sparks Court. Donations for the sale will be accepted Nov. 1 and Nov. 2.
