Founder’s Day, Maricopa’s celebration of its incorporation as Arizona’s 88th city, is less than three months away.

This year’s event, the 4th Annual City of Maricopa Founder’s Day, will be held at Pacana Park from 2 – 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 13. It will feature the annual chili cook off, always a favorite with young and old.

According to Parks, Recreation and Libraries (PRL) Director Marty McDonald, a newly added feature will be a best barbeque contest.

Musical headliners will be the Gin Blossoms. The city recently approved a contract with the William Morris Agency scheduling their appearance for the sum of $19,500.

Wells Fargo is the presenting sponsor for the 2007 Founder’s Day. Branch Manager Anthony Snider was at last week’s city council meeting to present the bank’s $10,000 check to Mayor Kelly Anderson, who accepted it on behalf of the city.

Harrah’s has also contributed $5,000 as a major sponsor. Sponsorships are still available as are vendor booths for the Vendors Village at the event.

On July 30 the city’s PRL Department will make information available to those desiring vendor booths. The booth spaces will actually go on sale August 1.

For those interested in sponsorships or vendor booths, contact McDonald via email or at (520) 568-9098, ext. 204.
