Student athletes at Central Arizona College will stand to benefit from the Vaquero Foundation’s Second Annual Golf Tournament on May 16 at Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa.

Golfers are invited to participate in the four-player scramble, which begins with a 6:30 a.m. registration and tee-off at 7:30 a.m. The cost is $100 and includes 18 holes of golf, a cart and lunch, as well as entry into a drawing for various prizes.

“The funds raised will go to support athletics and student athletes at Central Arizona College,” said John Longobardo, president of the foundation. The non-profit Vaquero Foundation was formed 30 years ago to provide support and scholarship money to student athletes at Central Arizona College.

Last year’s tournament raised more than $3,500. “Last year was very successful, and we’re hoping to double that sum this year,” Longobardo said. “This is an opportunity to play a really great golf course and have a good time. There’s great food, and Southern Dunes really rolls out the red carpet for us.”

Southern Dunes Golf Club was recently named one of Arizona’s top 10 golf courses by Golfweek magazine.
