Great Reads: Father Time, Sherlock Holmes come to library

As I perused the list of new books available at our Maricopa Public Library I’m confident one and all will be very pleased and eager to get reading.

One familiar name makes her long-awaited appearance on book shelves, another has written a heart-stopping new thriller, Father Time gets his due and Sherlock Holmes is back in an all new adventure. So rather than keep you in suspense, let’s begin shall we.

JK Rowling captured the imaginations of young and old with her bestselling Harry Potter series and this time around, she’s written for adults. Ironically as one press release stated recently, the children who first read Harry will now be ready to read her new book A Casual Vacancy.

Set in a small English town, everyone and anyone are at odds with each other but the catalyst for an even bigger conflict arises when Barry Fairbrother dies unexpectedly. His death leaves an open seat on the council and this ignites more drama as to who will replace him.

Brutal attacks are occurring worldwide and biologist Jackson Oz is troubled after he witnesses a lion ambush in Africa. He’s on a mission to alert world leaders and ecologist Chloe Tousignant helps him in Zoo by James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge.

Anti-terrorist agent John Corey and his wife FBI agent Kate Mayfield are sent to the Middle East to investigate the man responsible for the bombing of the USS Cole in Nelson DeMille’s The Panther.

Ken Follett’s Winter of the World continues the saga begun in the Fall of Giants. The rise of the Third Reich, the Spanish Civil War, the Second World War and the development of the atomic bomb and how it affects the families introduced in book one.
