As part of its “Greater Than” promotion, Maricopa’s Great Western Bank branch donated $750 to Against Abuse, Inc. Tuesday.

The promotion made a donation to a cash pot for each certificate of deposit that was purchased at the 11 banks located in Arizona’s region five, raising a combined $15,000 for different non-profit organizations in the various communities.

“We are very fortunate to be a recipient of this money in a time when so many more are in need,” said Torri Anderson, who heads Against Abuse in Maricopa.

Against Abuse was chosen as the recipient by the bank’s marketing president Cecilia Estrada Ashe.

Ashe said she grew familiar with the organization when living in New Mexico, and when she moved to Maricopa three years ago her fondness for the organization and what they do grew.

“They play an important role in the community,” Ashe said.

The money will go into Against Abuse’s general fund, but will be earmarked to assist in the construction of a Maricopa domestic violence shelter expected to break ground soon.
