Hard freeze tonight: danger to pets and plants

Pinal County is issuing a Hard Freeze Warning for tonight for the Phoenix area and northwest Pinal County (Casa Grande, Maricopa, Coolidge, Florence, etc.). This is the first such warning issued by Pinal County.

Temperatures as low as 20 degrees, especially in areas of the Southeast Valley and stretching into Pinal County, are expected. Even in other areas of the Valley temperatures are expected to be as low as 23-24.

These temperatures would be dangerous for pets and likely cause widespread damage to plants and exposed pipes.

Even this afternoon the minimal temperature climb that was expected did not occur. At 12:45 the Phoenix Sky Harbor temperature was only 40 degrees, and many areas in the greater Phoenix area had not even climbed out of the 30s.
