Maricopa Historical Society gave locals the chance to take a step back into the city’s early history last weekend.

More than 150 people attended the Tales & Treasures event in Province Feb. 10.

It came in lieu of the historical society’s annual golf tournament, according to Board Member Chad Chadderton.

Chadderton led mini reenactment of the Butterfield Mail Route, and Vice President Denny Hoeh led one of the Mormon Battalion.

Historical artifacts of Maricopa — the “treasures” — were shown off, and attendees had the challenge to guess the antique in front of them.

Some newer treasures at the event included raffles, a silent auction and a feast from Helen’s Catering.
