Holiday Homes on Parade winners announced

The City of Maricopa’s Parks, Recreation and Libraries Department recently concluded their first annual Holiday Homes on Parade event. A tremendous success, the inaugural event, sponsored by Global Water and Electrical District #3, had over 21 participating homes. Over 1,500 votes were recorded for the event. Contestants were asked to pre-register for the event starting in September. Recognizing that not everyone in the community heard about the event, PRL Director Marty McDonald created a special write-in category.

“We added the write-in category at the last minute as a means to accommodate those families who did not pre-register with us,” McDonald added. “On the first day of the event we received about a dozen phone calls asking to enter the contest, but, because of printing deadlines for our map, we couldn’t add them. The write-in category alone generated over 100 votes. I’d also like to thank Global Water and ED3 for their generous donations to make the event possible. I hope to have them return for next year’s event!”

This year’s contestants participated in five categories: Best on Parade, Most Creative, Best Theme, Best Light Show and Best Use of Color. All registered participants were competing for gift cards to Lowe’s Home Improvement Stores. All winners received a $200 gift card to Lowe’s except Best on Parade, which received a $300 gift card, and the write-in winner, who received a $100 gift card.

The winners are:

Best on Parade: The Kevin and Roxanna Ormod Family, 21919 North Balboa Drive (Rancho El Dorado)

Due to the popularity of the event, the City of Maricopa PRL Department has decided to offer the event for 2006 and many years beyond. Registration for the 2006 Holiday Homes on Parade will begin in July of next year. The PRL Department is already planning a kick-off event, which will be held at Pacana Park (currently under construction) on Saturday, December 2, 2006.

“We’ll probably bring in some snow for the kids, light the official City of Maricopa holiday tree and have other exciting programs and events for families,” McDonald stated.

Take the family out tonight to view the winning Holiday Homes on Parade!
