Maricopa began 2010 with a bang, issuing 50 single-family housing permits in January. The number represents the largest year-to-year increase in five years and continues the surge in building.

In January 2009, 13 single-family housing permits were pulled. Thus far this fiscal year, which runs from July to June, the city has ave raged 41.7 permits a month, compared to last fiscal year when the city averaged 33.5 permits.

Money generated from the construction of new homes is one of the revenue sources the city uses when calculating its annual budget.

In this current fiscal year, which started in July, the city is operating off the expectation of a 15-per-month permit average.
