Kathy’s Kreations: decorative pillows, unique glassware

Are you thinking about painting the living room? It might be easier to change a few pillows on the couch instead to transform the look of the room inexpensively without having to go that extra mile with the paintbrushes.

Maricopa resident Kathy Vaughan of Kathy’s Kreations most likely has something you will like, and, if not, she can custom design and make pillows and even outdoor cushions for patio furniture. “I hand make decorator pillows using all upholstery fabrics, silks and various trims. Every pillow is an original design, using different color fabrics and trims to coordinate with each other,” said Vaughn.

“I’ve always sewn since I was a child, making my own clothes, then my daughter’s clothes. I’ve always had a knack for creating things and love making them out of my ideas. I now have approximately 200 pillows in stock of many different fabrics, colors and designs,” Vaughn said.

Vaughan has even expanded her crafts from pillows to glassware, “Recently, I visited several wineries and saw glassware with the beaded grape designs on them and decided I could do this, too.”

Her decorative glassware takes shape from many, assorted mediums. Beginning with a simple vase, bottle, wine decanter, candleholders or wine glasses, she decorates each using various materials. Those materials range from glass marbles and seashells to gold, copper and silver wiring; she threads small glass beads on the wire and wraps them around the pieces.

Kathy’s Kreations will have its grand opening on Friday, Sept. 4, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the new indoor marketplace on the northwest corner of Scottsdale and Thunderbird Roads, located in the permanent Home and Garden Expo Center, booth #1626 in front of the Café. Vaughan’s booth will be open each Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Vaughan is also scheduled to participate as a vendor in some Home and Garden Shows in 2010. Locally there will be an expo on Oct. 3 in Rotary Park, featuring some Maricopa home-based businesses, and she will have her custom designs available there.

“I do have my pillows on display in my home, and I can be contacted for an appointment to see my work or to order custom pillows or cushions. I’ve always dreamed of having my own craft store, and this is as close to it as I can get. And it’s affordable,” Vaughan said.
