Local Oktoberfest to provide for Maricopa special needs students

47

The Second Annual Oktoberfest, sponsored by Maricopa MOM’s Club-Cruz, Desert Sun Performing Arts and Desert Star Gymnastics, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18, at The Stagestop Marketplace on the Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway.

DSPS Artistic Director Ceylan Gentilella said, “Our first year we saw a need to help middle school children. We found that there were a number of homeless children at the middle school and felt a need to come together to help them. In our first year we purchased backpacks, school supplies and P.E. uniforms with the funds that were raised. This year we felt it could be a great help to the Special Education Department to purchase equipment they need.”

Activities will include: face painting, pumpkins, crafts, cookie decorating, treasure hunts, raffles, Chub B. Bear, dancers, bands and more. There will be bounce houses available for children as well as a root beer garden, raffles and an auction.

While the admission is free, donations for the activities are appreciated so that the event can provide as much as possible for the students. The community is encouraged to come out for a fun time while lending support to the special education students of Maricopa.
