State troopers filed DUI and road rage charges against a man accused of causing an accident and fighting in Maricopa this week.

Maricopa police and the Arizona Department of Public Safety responded to a road rage incident on SR 347 around noon Monday, according to eyewitnesses.

“Two vehicles were involved in a road rage incident on SR 347 near the cement plant north of the city,” MPD spokesperson Monica Williams told InMaricopa.

The people involved began “ramming their vehicles” on their way into town, where they stopped at ACE Hardware and “both drivers began physically fighting,” Williams said.

DPS responded to the incident because it happened outside city jurisdiction, Williams said.

A 48-year-old man from Apache Junction, whom DPS did not identify, was charged with road rage and DUI, according to DPS spokesperson Bart Graves.

Troopers did not book the man into jail but referred the case to Pinal County Attorney.
