Maricopa Police Department accused a man of assaulting his wife in their apartment Saturday. He said voices in his head urged him to do it.

Maricopa police said the man they arrested attacked his wife after she refused to give him a set of truck keys.

A probable cause statement obtained by InMaricopa detailed the incident.

Just after 6 p.m., police were called to an apartment on North Porter Road after a domestic dispute was reported. Dispatchers told officers they heard a man and woman yelling in the background of the call and things sounded physically violent.

Officers spoke with 32-year-old Kevin M. Gradymiller, who told them he heard voices saying his wife was cheating on him and stealing his money. He cited that as the reason his wife refused to give up the keys.

Gradymiller and his wife engaged in a screaming match, according to the probable cause statement. He denied accusations of physical violence.

A child in the apartment told officers he was in his room when he heard the couple arguing about the keys.

The wife told police Gradymiller punched her body and head and put his hands around her neck. She said she could not breathe for ten seconds. Gradymiller allegedly left the apartment after choking her.

Officers noticed wounds on the woman’s chest. Gradymiller had an injury on his right hand.

Gradymiller was arrested and booked into Pinal County jail on a triad of domestic violence charges including aggravated assault.
