Maricopa was named one of the fastest-growing cities in the country by the U.S. Census Bureau today.

2022 population estimates from the bureau show Maricopa was the 12th fastest-growing large city, with a population increase of 6.2%. The population was estimated to be 66,290.

Large cities were those with a population of at least 50,000 on July 1, 2021.

This is not a surprising find, according to local real estate agent Dayv Morgan.

“I think it’s the combination of low housing prices, overall safety and Maricopa’s proximity to Phoenix and Chandler,” Morgan said. “Most homes are 20 years or newer and, even though people complain about traffic on (State Route) 347, the commute to places like Sky Harbor are much shorter than from, say, San Tan Valley.”

Maricopa was one of two Arizona cities listed in the results; Queen Creek was listed as the 7th fastest-growing large city in the nation. Georgetown, Texas topped the chart with 14.4% growth.
