Tuesday is the last day for Maricopa high school students to apply for a city internship.
The program is open to juniors and seniors. Internships are available in the finance, community services, city clerk, city manager and development services offices.
Emelie Nevius, a Maricopa High School junior, said she hoped to work in the parks and recreation department, but “the city clerk and marketing picked me. I actually loved it.”
Emelie interned last semester and said she is applying again.
“I loved working up front and meeting people. I just loved any part of my job,” she said.
Emelie said she had been looking for a job, but was having trouble because she didn’t have any work experience. Then a friend of her parents told her about the city internship program.
Students can apply every semester until they are 18, she said.
“I already have a friend applying. It’s a great experience; I’m telling everyone about it,” Emelie said.
