“We’ve got a lot of certificates to give away here,” noted Principal Michalski, holding up a stack of paper several inches thick. If that stack was any indication, the students at Maricopa Elementary School have been doing something right.

During the nearly two-hour assembly, kindergarten through third grade in the first hour and grades four through six in the second hour, students were recognized for several honors: perfect attendance, Honor Roll and Student of the Month. Two outstanding students were also recognized with Terrific Kid awards.

Student Body President Corilynn Teller, who assisted Principal Lynnette Michalski during the assembly, was one of those honored as Student of the Month.

The Terrific Kid award was presented at the end of each grade-level assembly. A Terrific Kid is an individual who demonstrates all types of good character traits, including responsibility, respect, thoughtfulness, friendliness and caring. Second grader, Kylee Chavez, and fourth grader, Tommy Sikes, received this special award, which included a Terrific Kid T-shirt and gift certificates from various local vendors.
