The Maricopa High School volleyball team nominated the school administration to participate in the Ice Bucket Challenge to support research for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS.

Numerous members of the administration, including Principal June Celaya and Athletic Director Mark Cisterna, participated in the challenge in front of the whole student body in the courtyard of the high school Friday morning.

Students were chanting “Pour the Ice” as a few students dropped the buckets of ice water on administration members.

“We are accepting the Ice Bucket Challenge as we were nominated from the Maricopa girls volleyball team and I now nominated the administration at Desert Wind Middle School and Santa Rosa Elementary for the challenge,” Celaya said. “You have 24 hours.”

As of Aug. 19, more than $13 million dollars had been raised for ALS research since the campaign began in July, The New York Times reported.
