Several of Maricopa High School’s seniors will have some financial relief as they look to continue their education.

In total 123 graduating seniors were awarded $1.3 million in scholarships at the annual Night of Excellence awards ceremony, May 13, at Maricopa High School.

Leading the way with more than $60,000 in scholarships was Wendy Tran, “I applied for as many scholarships as I could,” Tran said.

However, the senior will turn down offers she received from Grand Canyon University and Arizona State University to attend the University of Arizona. Lourdes Barrera came in a close second in scholarships by receiving two years free at the Art Institute in Phoenix, valued at $55,000.
