Maricopa Historical Society attains non-profit status

The Maricopa Historical Society has incorporated as a non-profit corporation.

The society began meeting in 2005 as the History Committee of the Friends of the Maricopa Public Library.

Thanks to many generous donations from local individuals and businesses, they were able to re-publish “Reflections of a Desert Town,” a book by former local teacher and historian, Patricia Brock. Donors were honored on a Benefactors of Maricopa’s Heritage plaque, which hangs in the library meeting room.

In addition, the society has installed display cases in the meeting room of the library, which were built by local artisan and long-time resident, Troy Anderson.  Artifacts collected from local families are exhibited on a rotating basis.

The Maricopa Historical Society would be pleased to hear from residents who may have artifacts they would be willing to lend or donate. Contact Pat Brock at 480-821-0604 or [email protected].

Society members have also hosted events to celebrate Maricopa’s 150 years of heritage, at which citizens reminisce about Maricopa’s early days and share the history of the area.

On Aug. 2 at 6 p.m. the historical society will meet at the Maricopa Public Library, 41600 W. Smith-Enke Road. The group welcomes anyone who is interested in history, especially the history of Maricopa, to join them.
