Maricopa police are seeking the identity of a suspicious biker in connection with an attempted burglary early Monday morning.

Security camera footage captured at the Chevron gas station at 19680 N. Maricopa Road show the man attempting to gain entry to the closed convenience store.

“The subject parked his red sports-style motorcycle at pump #6 and pretended to obtain fuel while he checked the parking lot,” MPD spokesman Ricardo Alvarado said. “The male subject broke the key cylinders to both entry doors but was unable to gain entry.”

The suspect was wearing a gray motorcycle helmet, black motorcycle jacket and jeans.

Vimal Patel, owner of the Chevron station, said the man tried to hit his store twice on Monday, around 3 a.m. and again about an hour later.

“He broke the key locks but he could still not get in because we have magnetic locks,” Patel said. “There is no (license) plate on his bike. Nothing you can see from the camera.”

The suspect is seen on camera trying to gain access to Chevron.

Throughout the security footage, the man seems to be speaking with someone through a smart watch or similar device on his wrist, leading Patel to believe there may be others involved in the crime attempts. Patel expressed frustration about the situation.

“Normally, we used to have a lot of cops before this (overpass). Nobody’s patrolling a lot over here now,” he said.

Two other attempted burglaries were reported days earlier at Aliberto’s restaurant at 44480 Honeycutt Road, police said.

“Overnight on 09/18/20 and 09/19/20 the key cylinder to Aliberto’s Mexican Food was broken twice. It’s unknown if the incidents at Aliberto’s and Chevron are related, but the damage is very similar,” Alvarado said. “There was no security footage regarding the incidents at Aliberto’s.”

Box Meat Shop owner Luiz Pozzolo has been helping to spread word of the burglary attempts, sending photos of the Chevron security footage out to the community in an attempt to find the man’s identity. Pozzolo said friends reportedly have seen the same motorcycle in the area of Porter and Honeycutt roads.
