Maricopa parents and children got splashed with education Thursday evening during a water safety event hosted by the Maricopa Unified School District.

The Summer Splash Community Night drew hundreds of parents and kids to the Maricopa Unified School District Office, 44150 W. Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway. The district partnered with the Maricopa Fire and Police departments, the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Banner Health Center, Sun Life dental and other organizations.

With Arizona's long swimming season well underway, the goal of the event was to inform parents about how they can prevent drownings.

The event included a presentation about drowning prevention, a CPR course, food and games for kids.
