Maricopa High School boys cross country coach Duane Anderson gave most of his varsity a day off Wednesday when the team competed in a tri-meet at Arcadia, but his JV runners did well.

Meanwhile, the Maricopa girls placed second in the meet despite one runner who got lost on the course and ran about an extra half mile.

Only two boys’ varsity runners competed. Reed pace placed fifth in 18:57 for the 3.1-mile course, while Caleb St. Gailes was seventh in 19:28, a personal record. Eli Reynolds was the top JV finisher, taking 19th place with a time of 21:44.

Arcadia won the meet with 20 points, while Williams Field was second at 54 and MHS had 62.

***ADVERTISEMENT***The girls’ race was a case of double-vision. Identical twins Sole and Tess Dewulf, of Arcadia, placed first and second, while Ram twins Jessica and Beth Beach were third and fourth. Andrea Ibarra was the runner who got lost and finished 20th.

Arcadia won with 21 points to 43 for Maricopa and 76 for Williams Field.
