Teacher Bart Romero of Maricopa High School was honored last week as the Fulton Homes’ Teacher of the Week on the KNIX “Ben and Matt Show.”

Romero, who teaches agri-science and welding classes, was nominated by 15-year-old Kayla Wagner for his ability to inspire “normally agitated” teens.

“Mr. Romero is willing to do as much as he can for the students that are willing to learn,” Wagner said. “He works extremely hard and tries to get us (his students) involved in helping out the community.”

Aside from teaching classes, Romero heads the school’s Future Farmers of America program and will be taking the club’s members to the national convention in Indianapolis this year. Periodically throughout the semester, his students go out into the community of Maricopa to trim trees, cut grass and help beautify the natural surroundings.

“He is very outgoing, very busy and when he says he’s going to do something, he jumps in with both feet,” said Becky Teller, a fellow staffer at Maricopa High School.

Romero has taught at Maricopa High School for 17 years. His past experience includes 13 years teaching in Belize.

In addition to being spotlighted on the radio, Romero received $300 in cash and prizes from Fulton Homes and the Dairy Council of Arizona.

Students can nominate their favorite teacher for Fulton Homes’ Teacher of the Week by submitting a form at any Fulton Homes location or online at fultonhomes.com or knixcountry.com. Winners are chosen based on their commitment to education, career achievements and impact on students’ lives.

“Teachers truly impact our children’s lives and can encourage them to be the best individuals they can be,” said Douglas Fulton, CEO of Fulton Homes. “It is important that we recognize teachers like Bart Romero because our futures are in their classrooms.”

Every week, students are asked to nominate their favorite teacher for the chance to win a prize package that includes $300 in cash plus prizes from Fulton Homes and the Dairy Council of Arizona. The winning teacher will also be spotlighted on the KNIX Morning Show with Ben and Matt, where they will receive special recognition on their Friday show. At the end of the year, the 34 winning teachers will be honored at a special luncheon, where one outstanding teacher will be selected as “Teacher of the Year.”
