With Niles Getz and Steven Temme firing their best rounds of the year, the Maricopa High School golf team closed its 2011 season with its best effort of the year, including its first victory.

Getz and Temme each shot 47's over the Aguila Golf Course, leading the Rams to a team score of 227, their best of the year. That placed MHS third among the four competing teams. Arcadia won the event with a 155 total. Apache Junction was second at 193, while host Carl Hayden came in fourth with 258.

Temme, a senior, produced the highlight of his career in his final event when he drove to within two feet of the pin on a par four hole and then sank the putt for his first career eagle.

Also scoring for Maricopa were Nick Hanes at 62 and Alex Vu with a 71.
