MHS runners finish season hitting personal best times

Personal records fell by the wayside Saturday as Maricopa High School cross country runners finished the regular season at the Eye of the Tiger Invite in Marana.

Five boys and four girls posted personal-best times.

Freshman Filimon Kednmarey led the boys’ team by finishing 34th in 18:35.5. Close behind him in 39th place was junior Tanis Palmer, who ran a personal best 18:42.9.

Senior Matthew Coles had turned in a personal best 19:07.7. Junior Maverick Miller PR’d with a run of 19:34.3. Senior Jovanni Fontes was the fifth runner for the team. Senior Lance Grist and junior Charles Liermann both had personal bests.

Senior Anabelle Dayley was top runner for the Maricopa girls, finishing 50th in 24:52.4. Senior Ebony Griffin had her personal-best run two slots behind her. Junior Lauren Grist ran her personal best time in 25:27.5. Junior Grace Lunceford PR’d, as did senior Frances Trast. Junior Stephanie Vasquez rounded out the team effort.

Two weeks earlier the Rams had participated in the O’Connor Invitational, where Kednmarey won the freshman race in 19:18.91. Coles was Maricopa’s top finisher in the varsity race, finishing in 20:36.5.

Dayley was the girls’ top finisher in the varsity race at O’Connor, running the 5K in 26:14.84.

The sectional meet is Nov. 4 in Gilbert.
